Free Social Media Tools for Creators and Marketers
Ten free social media tools that run entirely in your browser, with no login, no watermark and no upload: a carousel splitter, an image resizer, an engagement rate calculator, a caption and hashtag counter, a YouTube thumbnail downloader, a Reels safe zone previewer, a hashtag cleaner, a font generator, a posting time planner and an ad budget calculator.
Your images and captions never leave your device. Everything below is processed by your own browser, which is why there is no file size cap and no queue.
Instagram carousel splitter
Upload one wide image and cut it into slides that line up edge to edge when someone swipes. Works for Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook carousels.

Social media image resizer
One image in, correctly sized image out. Pick the placement and the tool crops or pads to the exact pixel size that platform wants.

Instagram engagement rate calculator
Two numbers matter and most people only quote one. Engagement on followers tells you about your audience. Engagement on reach tells you whether the post itself worked.
| Account size | Weak | Par | Strong |
|---|
Bands are rough industry guides for Instagram, not a rule. Compare a post against your own last twenty posts before you compare it against anyone else.
Caption and hashtag counter
Paste your caption once and see whether it fits everywhere you plan to post it, plus what shows before the “more” cut on Instagram.
What shows before the “more” cut

| Platform | Limit | Used | Left | Status |
|---|
YouTube thumbnail downloader
Paste any YouTube link and pull the thumbnail at every size YouTube stores. Useful for competitor teardowns, blog embeds and pitch decks.
Not every video has a maxres version. If a size is missing, YouTube never generated it.
Reels and Shorts safe zone previewer
Vertical video gets covered by the app’s own buttons and caption. Drop in your cover frame and see exactly what the interface hides before you publish.
No image loaded yet. You can still download a blank guide to drop into Canva.
Hashtag cleaner
Paste a messy pile of hashtags from anywhere. Get back a deduplicated, correctly formatted set you can drop straight into a post.
Instagram font generator
Turn plain text into styled Unicode characters you can paste into a bio, caption or story. Read the warning under the results before you use these anywhere that matters.
| Style | Result |
|---|
Use these sparingly. Screen readers announce them character by character or skip them, search cannot match them, and Instagram does not index them. Keep your name and your keywords in normal text and use a styled font for decoration only.
Best time to post planner
Published “best times” are stated in the audience’s local clock. If your audience is somewhere else, that is not your clock. This converts the common high activity windows into the time you would actually hit schedule.
| Window | Audience local time | Your local time |
|---|
These are general activity patterns, not your numbers, and they ignore daylight saving. Treat them as a starting point for a two week test, then keep whatever your own analytics say worked.
Social ad budget and CPA calculator
Work forward from a budget to see what it buys, or work backward from a conversion target to see what it costs. Change one assumption and watch the whole chain move.
Currency is whatever you typed. The chain is budget, then CPM buys impressions, then CTR buys clicks, then conversion rate buys outcomes. If the CPA looks wrong, the assumption that is wrong is almost always the conversion rate, not the CPM.
Social media image sizes in 2026
The sizes the resizer above uses. Upload at these dimensions and nothing gets recompressed on the way in.
| Platform | Placement | Pixels | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Square feed post | 1080 x 1080 | 1:1 | |
| Portrait feed post | 1080 x 1350 | 4:5 | |
| Story and Reel | 1080 x 1920 | 9:16 | |
| Link post image | 1200 x 630 | 1.91:1 | |
| Link post image | 1200 x 627 | 1.91:1 | |
| Square feed post | 1200 x 1200 | 1:1 | |
| X | In-stream image | 1600 x 900 | 16:9 |
| YouTube | Video thumbnail | 1280 x 720 | 16:9 |
| Standard pin | 1000 x 1500 | 2:3 | |
| Status | 1080 x 1920 | 9:16 |
Portrait 4:5 takes up the most vertical space Instagram allows in the feed, which is why it usually beats square on reach per impression.
Caption and hashtag limits in 2026
What the counter above checks against. Going over does not warn you inside the app, it just silently truncates.
| Platform | Caption limit | Hashtag limit | Cut-off point |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2,200 characters | 30 per post | About 125 characters before “more” | |
| TikTok | 2,200 characters | Counted inside the caption | About 100 characters |
| X | 280 characters | No hard limit | Full post shown |
| 3,000 characters | No hard limit, 3 to 5 works best | About 210 characters before “see more” | |
| 63,206 characters | No hard limit | About 250 characters | |
| YouTube | 5,000 characters in description | 15 per video | About 100 characters above “show more” |
| Threads | 500 characters | No hard limit | Full post shown |
| 500 characters | No hard limit, 2 to 5 works best | About 50 characters |
The cut-off point matters more than the limit. Most people only ever read the first line, so put the hook there and the detail after.
How engagement rate is actually calculated
Two formulas, two different questions. Most reports quote one and pretend it answers both.
Engagement rate by followers
Add likes, comments, saves and shares, divide by your follower count, multiply by 100. This tells you how much of your audience is awake. It is the number brands ask for when they are sizing up a creator, because it is the only one they can calculate from the outside.
Engagement rate by reach
Same top line, but divide by the number of accounts that actually saw the post instead of your follower count. This tells you whether the post itself worked. If a post reaches 4,000 people and 400 of them do something, that is a 10 percent rate whether you have 5,000 followers or 500,000.
Which one to report
Report by reach when you are judging content, because it removes audience size from the comparison. Report by followers when you are judging the account, or when someone external needs to verify the number. Saves and shares are worth watching separately from likes, because both platforms treat them as stronger signals than a like.
Questions people ask about these tools
Are these social media tools really free
Yes. There is no signup, no email wall, no watermark and no export limit. The tools run as JavaScript inside your browser, so there is no server cost to recover. Some of the links on this page point to paid products we may earn a commission from, which is what funds the page.
Do my images get uploaded anywhere
No. Every image is read by your own browser and processed on your device. Nothing is sent to TechMachaw or to any third party. You can switch off your internet connection after the page loads and the carousel splitter, resizer, engagement calculator and caption counter will all still work.
What size should an Instagram carousel be
1080 x 1350 pixels per slide, in 4:5 portrait, is the size that takes up the most feed space. Square at 1080 x 1080 also works and is safer if the same image is going to LinkedIn as well. For a seamless swipe effect, start with one wide image at 1080 pixels tall and 1080 pixels wide per slide, so a 5 slide carousel starts life as a 5400 x 1350 image.
What is a good engagement rate on Instagram
It depends on account size, and smaller accounts always look better. Under 5,000 followers, anything above 4 percent is strong. Between 5,000 and 20,000, par is around 2.5 percent. Between 20,000 and 100,000, par is around 1.8 percent. Above 100,000 followers, 1.2 percent is respectable. These are guides, not rules. Your own last twenty posts are a better benchmark than an industry average.
How many hashtags should I use on Instagram
The hard limit is 30, but the useful number is far lower. Three to five specific hashtags that describe what the post is actually about will do more than thirty broad ones, because the broad tags put you in a feed you cannot compete in. The counter above flags anything over 30 as too long.
Why does my caption get cut off
Every platform truncates the caption in the feed and hides the rest behind a “more” link. On Instagram that happens around 125 characters, on LinkedIn around 210. The caption counter above shows exactly what survives the cut so you can move the hook forward.
Can I download any YouTube thumbnail
You can pull any publicly hosted thumbnail at the sizes YouTube generated for it. Not every video has a maximum resolution version, which is why a size sometimes does not appear. Thumbnails are the creator’s copyrighted work, so use them for research, competitive analysis and commentary, not for republishing as your own.
Do these tools work on a phone
Yes. Everything on this page is built for mobile as well as desktop. On iOS, saved files land in your Files app rather than your camera roll, so move them across before you post.
What is the difference between crop to fill and fit whole image
Crop to fill scales the image up until it covers the whole frame and cuts off whatever hangs over the edge, so nothing is letterboxed but you lose the edges. Fit whole image keeps everything visible and pads the empty space with a colour you pick. Use crop for photos and fit for screenshots, charts and anything with text near the edge.
Why does a carousel look misaligned when I post it
Almost always because the slides were uploaded in the wrong order, or because the app re-cropped them. Upload slide 1 first, and make sure every slide is the same aspect ratio, otherwise Instagram crops the whole set to match the first one.
What is the safe zone for Instagram Reels
On a 1080 x 1920 frame, keep everything important out of the top 180 pixels and the bottom 460 pixels, and clear of the right 180 pixels where the like, comment and share buttons sit. That leaves a safe area of roughly 860 x 1280 pixels. TikTok and YouTube Shorts are slightly more forgiving, so designing to the Instagram limits covers all three.
Do fancy Instagram fonts hurt your account
They do not get you penalised, but they cost you two things. Screen readers either spell them out character by character or skip them entirely, which locks out anyone using one, and search cannot match them, so a styled keyword in your bio is invisible to Instagram search. Keep your name and your keywords in normal text and use a styled font for decoration only.
